Childhood Dizziness

Dizzy, Vertigo, Dizziness, Meniere's, Spinning, Balance IssuesVertigo and dizziness are symptoms that we often think only occur in adults. Children having balance and dizziness issues is more common than you may assume. It is estimated that approximately 5% of children in the U.S. between the ages of 3-17 have had episodes of dizziness or loss of balance. These episodes were slightly more common in girls (5.7% vs. 5%). (1)

A few sources of dizziness in children include:

  • Neurological issues
  • Ear infections
  • Concussions
  • Injuries to the head or neck
  • Ear malformation

Only one-third of parents stated that they had a diagnosis of their child’s dizziness. When looking for a solution to balance issues, it is essential to uncover the root cause.

How is my child’s spine related to their dizziness?
Your spine is designed to protect your spinal cord. Your spinal cord carries signals to and from your brain. When the top bone in your neck (atlas) is misaligned, this can create pressure within your spinal cord at the base of your neck. This can affect signals going to and from your brainstem, potentially leading to vertigo and dizziness symptoms.

The doctors at HP Spine Center are trained in Orthospinology, a precise chiropractic procedure that detects and corrects atlas misalignments. Orthospinology is a very specific and gentle chiropractic technique that does not involve any twisting, popping, or cracking. Through realignment of the atlas, pressure within the spinal cord is reduced. The brainstem is able to send and receive messages without distortion. This may lead to a reduction of vertigo symptoms.

Elster conducted an analysis of 60 patients with chronic vertigo that received specific atlas corrections. 48 out of the 60 patients received complete resolution of vertigo symptoms. All of the cases received some reduction of vertigo severity and or frequency over the course of one to six months of atlas care. (2)

Headache Pain at Work

Chiropractors in Atlanta Help Headaches

You’re looking at your computer screen, and you feel a nagging pain start in your head. It can become incredibly difficult to focus as the pain begins to intensify. Have you noticed these kinds of headache episodes at work? It may appear as though there was no immediate cause, but repetitive poor posture can directly contribute to tension headaches.

How to Improve Posture in the Workplace (1)

  • Sit up against your seat back
  • Bring your shoulders back, avoid “hunching”
  • Adjust your chair height so your knees are slightly lower than your hips
  • Make sure your feet are flat on the floor
  • Bring your monitor up to eye level
  • Make sure your elbows and wrists are parallel to the floor when typing

While these posture tips may lessen your tension headache frequency, the root cause is not addressed. Proper spinal alignment can help prevent these pounding tension headaches.

Natural Tension Headache Relief
Your spine is responsible for protecting your spinal cord. Your spinal cord is essential for transmitting signals to and from your brain. When your atlas (top bone in your spine) misaligns, this leads to tension within your spinal cord. Spinal cord tension causes the signals going to and from your brain to become distorted. This may lead to tension headache symptoms.

I am trained in Orthospinology, a gentle chiropractic procedure that detects and corrects atlas misalignments. Orthospinology is a very precise technique. Through specific realignment of the atlas, the pressure within the spinal cord is reduced. The brainstem is able to send and receive messages without distortion. This may lead to a reduction of tension headache symptoms.

Palmer et al. examined 47 patients with non-migraine headaches. After two weeks of specific atlas chiropractic care (and only one correction), the subjects had a significant reduction in headache pain. They found that after 3-4 months of care, their headache symptoms decreased by 75% on average. (2)

Chiropractor Smyrna helps vertigo, dizziness, disequilibrium, Ménière's disease

Chiropractor Smyrna Georgia helps Vertigo

5-10% of people in the United States have experienced some form of imbalance, dizziness, or vertigo (1). What makes dizziness different from vertigo? Vertigo is the perception of movement when you are still. It is often described as a spinning or tilting sensation. Dizziness is often described as being lightheaded with generally feeling a loss of balance.

Common conditions that cause vertigo include (2)

– Meniere’s disease

– Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo

– Vestibular neuronitis

– Labyrinthitis

In order for your brain to figure out where your body is in space, it has to rely on messages from your inner ears, your eyes, and your joints. When one or more of these systems is compromised, vertigo symptoms may result. Here at HP Spine Center, we want you to get back to feeling like yourself again.
